Baking Soda, also knows as Natrium Sodium Bicarbonate, is a purifying salt consistency, which has been used in countries like the USA and UK for over centuries. Today, its increasing popularity is spreading all over the world, because of its purifying quality and multifunctional purposes. Not only in the kitchen and household, but also for personal care and health.
For oral use, however, I would recommend using the more pure and concentrated version, which is available at all health food stores.
HOME MADE TIPS
If you are concerned about your health, nature or your money, you will love some of these relatively cheap suggestions, with phenomenal results.
HEALTH
BATHING TO ALKALINE THE BODY
Treat yourself regularly with a home-made natural spa, a perfect way to Alkaline the body. It balances your pH level, draws out toxins, lowers stress-related hormones and absorbs heavy metals and radiations.
Take half a cup, or 100 gr. of baking soda, a handful Epsom salt or sea salt and optional ten drops of lavender essential oil. Stay at least for 30 minutes in the bath for the best result. Your body will feel super soft and reborn. Also, this bath can be used for the relief of rash, itching or acne.
ALKALINE YOUR BODY
Another use to Alkaline the body and balance the pH level is to drink daily a solution of some water with 1/4 tsp sodium bicarbonate. You can do this for the rest of your life to keep your body Alkaline! You can start with a cure for two weeks, by taking this solution four times daily.

STOMACH ACIDS
If you are suffering from stomach acid or abdominal distension, drink a glass of water with a tsp of dissolved sodium bicarbonate. Unlike prescribed remedies, this does not have any side effects. It is also affirmed to be safe during pregnancy!
SOOTHES BUG BITES AND OTHER ITCHING
Rub some baking soda on the insect bite, or on the itching part of your body, to relieve the itching.
FUNGI
For the treatment of fungi use a daily dose of sodium bicarbonate, it enhances the resistance to fungi. The average dose is 2 cups or 250 ml water with 5% solution of sodium bicarbonate. However, always adjust the dosage as necessary to the person.
CANCER TREATMENT
Much has been written about the treatment of cancer, and the use of sodium bicarbonate. The combination of lemon and sodium bicarbonate has proven to be 10.000 times stronger in killing cancer than chemotherapy. Recently I’ve also been informed about the fantastic working in combination with honey.
If you are interested, I would advise to do some research on google and find out for yourself. If possible, find your own health care practitioner who can help and support you in this process. Some websites that I really like are:
Perhaps the biggest supporter of Sodium Bicarbonate as a remedy against cancer is the Italian Dr. Tullio Simoncini from Rome. His therapy is based on bringing the saline solution directly to the tumor. He believes that the primary cause of cancer is fungus, which can be destroyed by direct exposure of sodium bicarbonate. Treatments of different kinds of cancer are discussed on his website: Cure Naturali Cancro.
PERSONAL CARE
BREATH FRESHENER
Create a mixture by adding one tbsp of baking soda in a glass of water. Gargle, spit the mixture and rinse. This simple mouthwash makes mouth odour disappear. You can also clean your toothbrush in a similar blend.
FACIAL CLEANER AND MAKEUP REMOVER
Take a small amount of baking soda, with some drops of water in the palm of your hand. Gently scrub, for a smooth skin and the removal of impurities. Eventually, add some coconut oil to enhance it smoothening effect. Always work around the eyes, to prevent irritation. Rinse well with plenty of water.
FACIAL MASK
Baking soda can also be used as a natural face mask, working perfectly for people who suffer from acne or oily skin. This mask cleanses the pores deeply and thoroughly. First, clean your face with a mild face cleanser. Mix 2 or 2.5 tbsp of baking soda with 1 tbsp water. Mix until it becomes a creamy texture (see image). Gently apply the mixture to your face, leave for about 10 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.
PEDICURE TREATMENT
For a quick pedicure treatment, you can apply the same procedure as the “bathing”. Spoil your tired feet in about 15 minutes, by adding two tbsp of baking soda in a little warm bath. For the ultimate relaxation, add some drops of essential oil such as lavender. Problem areas, such as the heel and bottom of your feet, can be treated by scrubbing it with a thicker mixture of baking soda and water. This treatment also removes dead skin cells.
NATURAL DEODORANT
Dab a mixture of baking soda, some natural salt like Epsom and some water under your arms to prevent or take away sweat odours. You can leave it on or rinse it after about 5 minutes or when dry. You will stay fresh for most of the day without the need to use harmful deodorant.
SHAMPOO
A perfect way to remove all dirt, including the remains of styling products. Mix 1 tbsp of baking soda with 2 tbsp of water. Massage into your hair and leave for a few minutes and wash thoroughly with your shampoo.
NATURAL TOOTHPASTE
For healthier gum and whiter teeth, brush with a little bit of baking soda instead of toothpaste. It also contains excellent anti-plaque qualities and is free from fluoride, glycerine, and other unnecessary products. If you don’t like the taste, you can combine with toothpaste, preferably without fluoride!
Another combination is a mixture of bicarbonate and coconut oil. It will eliminate all bacteria responsible for teeth damage. I’ve written more about coconut oil in relations to teeth health in Oil pulling for better health and a brighter smile.
Note:
Just like tooth whiteners baking soda has abrasive quality’s, therefore, recommended to use it only once a day. Also, don’t use if you have a bracket because baking soda dissolves the glue from braces.
HOME
PURIFIES and DEODORIZES
- put a little bowl with baking soda in the refrigerator to absorb unpleasant odours.
- sprinkle some in smelling shoes, boots or slippers, leave for a few hours and drain or shake out.
- remove the odours of spilled food on your clothes, especially for the little ones. With a wet cloth and a little baking soda on it, rub the garment and then rinse.
- put some baking soda in your vacuum cleaner to neutralise the typical vacuum cleaner air.
- for pet owners, pour some in your cat box or dog basket. You know why!
- use it for most of your cleaning tasks in the house. You may add some vinegar for extra cleaning strength.
- extend the freshness of your flowers by adding a tsp of baking soda in the water.

This miracle white powder, with a salty taste and purifying qualities, has proven to be more useful than just for the rising of cakes.

Once again , thank you so much for all the insightful information on the miraculous benefits of baking soda , dear Monique ! …i’ve known of some of them and use it in my refrigerator and always in the washing machine when i do my laundry ! it was always one handy remedy for an upset stomach when i was growing up …but you brought on a whole array of other uses for which i’m very grateful … I will know make a point of putting some in a jar and keep it on my kitchen counter for easy access and more regular use ! It’s so inexpensive and widely available , it would be a shame not to benefit from from it’s goodness !

I was using it only in making cakes and for some Indian cooking but wow it has so much more in its store.
